I was probably a young teen when I discovered I loved daisies. I loved the color, the shape, the petals.
Then one day, many years later, I smelled one—and instantly felt embarrassed.
How could I have chosen a stinky flower as my favorite?
Instead of a pleasant fragrance, daisies have a smell that has been described as "a mildly earthy smell." In some cases, daisies even smell "mildly reminiscent of cow manure."
Years of experience and further reflection have taught me why I still love daisies. They represent beauty, resilience, radiance, and they remind me that I can embrace my whole self—including the "stinky" parts!
