How much SHOULD you weigh?

Trying to LOSE weight? Trying to GAIN weight? Why?

I have been many shapes and sizes in my life. I’ve been underweight and overweight. I’ve been “tiny” and I’ve been “huge”. I’ve been very unkind to my body over the years — physically, emotionally, and verbally.


But here’s what I've realized: my weight had very little to do with my health.

  • When I “looked great!” I was malnourished, had disordered eating, little self-worth, little confidence, and felt out of control.

  • When I was my heaviest, I was burdened physically with the extra weight I was carrying, yet I also felt more “alive” and unashamed of my body.

How does this make sense? Because I am more than a body! Many factors play into our health and well-being, and our physical size is just one of those factors—one puzzle piece in a much larger picture.


As I became healthier mentally and emotionally, my physical health followed, and I “landed” at my healthy weight. I DON'T restrict calories, I DON'T exercise to lose weight, and I DON'T have a goal to fit into a particular size of clothing.


I DO focus on fueling my body and brain with nutrients it needs, I DO exercise to gain strength, endurance, and stamina, and I DO enjoy social eating when I’m with friends.


I’ve done a lot of work to be in a place where I love my body AND my brain AND my abilities AND my talents AND my preferences AND my uniqueness AND my capacity to learn and progress. Weight has nothing to do with those things—NOTHING!


I believe that when you properly nourish your body by managing your stress (cortisol) levels, eating in an empowered way, engaging in regular self-care, hydrating sufficiently, living intentionally, sweating often, practicing good sleep hygiene, and experiencing meaningful connections regularly, your weight will land where it can best support you at this time in your life. And what you're really looking for—confidence in your body and enjoyment in your life—will be yours.
